Hello, I have just joined as I was searching the internet for some help with a problem that I have and I found this great site.
We have bought a second hand RIB with a 2005 Evinrude 250DI outboard. The engine has done 110 hours but hasn't been used since 2011.
We launched the RIB at the weekend and the engine started almost immediately, despite having old fuel in the tanks.
The intention was to fill the two tanks (330L) to the brim to refresh the old fuel. However, the marina did not have any petrol so we struck out to another marina.
The engine was running very well, bags of power, no obvious sign of any problems until the power dropped straight off, the system "beeped" and the display said "Check Engine"
We stopped the engine and could see no obvious problems. The engine started immediately and there appeared to be no problem.
In essence the fault repeated itself, each time sooner than the time before at lower revs.
We ***umed that it was the poor quality fuel so abandoned the idea of the 2nd marina and took a tow back to the original marina from our friends who were our "safety boat" for our first trip.
Armed with about 80 litres of "fresh " fuel we returned to the RIB to try again.
Pretty much at the same spot the same problem occurred.
Paying closer attention this time round having eliminated the expected fuel issue, the display flashes "overheat" when the engine first starts then goes chk engine and the flashes to the fuel level (or which ever menu it was left on)
The "tell tale" chucks out a good strong stream of water and there is a Water pressure gauge at the helm which show water pressure.
Any one got any ideas what it could be? I ordered a workshop manual a few weeks ago from a Evinrude dealer but they are still waiting for it to come into stock.
Please help!
Eddie
