Hello everybody,
I have an old 1969 model 18902 18HP that is giving me fits. After putting the motor into gear and getting under way, I can run the motor to almost half throttle when the motor will shudder and slow down. The RPMs stay revved up but the boat slows almost to a stall. I have to back out of the throttle to almost idle and run it at that speed for a little while before throttling up again. I cannot get over half throttle and this happens again. The motor never jumps out of forward gear.
All of this started after I had to tow a friend’s boat to the boat dock after he ran out of gas. I think the strain of pulling his boat for some distance put strain on something.
I am not sure it the prop is slipping or if it is something in the transmission. If anybody has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
