I didn't see a "newby" link but I am really just getting into an outboard forum. My first outboard was a 1955 3 HP Evinrude I got for graduation from HS in 1959. I believe my grandmother (paternal) paid $50 for it. It had the one quart tank (or so) on the top of the engine and would run all afternoon. It was stolen while I was in college and I didn't get another outboard until 1971. It is a 1959 7 1/2 HP Johnson that still runs like a top.

My current big(er) engine is a 1990 60 HP Evinrude that was rebuilt in 1999 and I bought it as a replacement motor for my 16 ft. center console in 2005. It has been a great motor, running better the more hours I put on it. Which I hope to do more since I retired a week ago today. I know I will bring down the howls from a bunch of you, but so it goes. After 7 years or so, I am finally getting around to replacing the spark plugs and a new fuel filter. It ran a little rough last week, but then I haven't had it in the water since last May. The water has been low on Lake Lanier to the point it was nearly impossible to find a ramp to put a boat in at, and the weather got very hot, very fast. I am getting to old to do hot like I used to.

I hope to fish more this summer. If you fish Lanier, watch for the "Nancy J" or holler on Chan 16. I usually have my hand held VHF with me.

    Good fishing, Y'all.
