1960 Evinrude 3034 3hp carburetor

Are the float bowel needle valves normally rubber tipped in this early model? Mine sticks and then then engine shuts off. Wait a few seconds and apparently the needle drops down again, the bowel fills up and it starts. Then stops again.

Yes as far as I can remember they were rubber tipped, Ethanol gas will cause the rubber tip to swell and stick closed.

I tried cleaning with carb cleaner to no avail. Is there a solution for the problem?

Replace float valve with new one and then use non-ethanol gas
