  • 92 evinrude 115 lower unit

    hello,

i have an 84 Wellcraft 18 fisherman with a 92 evinrude 115 on the back

    Model # E115MLEND

a bearing went bad deep in my lower unit last weekend and i found a used lower unit off of an 87 evinrude 90 but the guy doesn't know the model number.

if this lower unit will work on my outboard it would be way cheaper than repairing mine.

does anyone know which lower units interchange?

and if my motor is a 90 degree or 60 degree? (im ***uming 90)

and what does crossflow or looping mean and have to do with it all?

Thanks Alot if you can help

I am not a lower unit expert by any means, but I have a 92 140 hp that I hit a rock with and put a hole in the lower unit. I bought a service manual for the motor and took the lower unit apart so that I could have the hole welded up. This was a few years ago but as I remember the whole thing was pretty straight forward. Drop the lower unit off the motor. unbolt and remove the drive shaft, then remove the prop and the prop shaft out the back. The gear lash was adjusted by using shims, but you shouldn't have to mess with those, just replace all the bearings and seals and button it back up. Hope this helps.

PS once I got it back together I used a vacuum hand pump to check the seals, once it tested good I put oil in it and it has lasted about 7 years now.

      same issue

Have a 98 90hp and want to swap with a spare lower from a 70 hp. Is there an interchange with models?
