evinrude 100 v4 no go

hi my son just bought an old boat with a 100 hp v4 evinrude on it he took it out on the water and it ran fine but when he came back and put the muffs on with hose to clean it out after acouple of minutes an alarm came on and it stopped and we cant get it going again is there a reset button somewhere ?? i realise we probably need a new waterpump or impellor any ideas what could be wrong ?? how do i find what year and model it is ?? thank tou for any help john

The model number is located on the mounting bracket that mounts to the transome of the boat. Start by checking spark and compression.
