  • Cold start e tec 75 2008

I bought this motor in september 2011. When the temperatures was nearing 0 deg C the cold start became an issue. The motor is cranking but no start. Battery is new Bosch gel battery 95Ah. Starting sometimes succesfull when I have used car battery after emptying the boat battery. After first start never problems. Summertime no problems.
This year many actions have been taken to solve this out: Changing starter cables to 50 mm2, new main breaker, spark plugs, battery connections, new starter motor....no improvement. Computer shows no active alarms.
At some point the diagnosis from the service company was that the voltage drops to 8 volts when cranking, therefore the injectors do not open.
Service company is out of ideas and importer of these motors said that never heard before about this kind of problem. The costs for me already 1600€ with no what so ever result!

Has this problem something to do with the viscosity of the XD100 oil at low temperatures?

Any ideas are warmly welcomed! BR, juha

We recommend contacting BRP to obtain the an updated fuel mapping for your engine. Chances are your ecu may need some updating.

        E tec 75 2008 software

According to the latest info the service company stated that there is no update available for my engine. How to verify?
        Any advice where to look?

        Softwares in my engine:
Map software ver 3030391, Map soft rev. 99393, PDC Ver 75i06127.

        Thankful for any help.

        Best Regards, juha

You can check with BRP directly, not through a service department.

            Mail from Evinrude parts

Some time ago I got the response that there were no bulletins on cold start concerning my engine. BR, juha

              Mystery motor E tec 2008 75 hp

Hi! The situation 13.3.2013 Stiff cold cranking still exists. Motor is totally dis***embled at the moment. No piston jam signs, piston rings OK. Camshaft not yet measured for straightness.
              1) what if I would have 2 batteries, one for starter only and another for injectors etc.?
              2) They poured some oil out from the canshaft chamber. Normal or caused by many start attempts?
              3) What's the voltage for injectors to open?

Any help appreciated! Bad starter, solenoid etc. have been ruled out earlier.

May be a low voltage problem, if voltage to ECU falls below 10 volts at cranking then ECU will shut down. May have to use a higher cranking amp battery.
                Regards

                  Battery E tec 75

The battery is new Bosch AGM S6 95 Ah:
                  "12V Capacity - 95Ah CCA (EN) - 850A 353L x 175W x 190H"

Can the voltage be measured at injector when cold cranking to see if it's too low Voltage?

                  Best regards, juha leino

Check voltage at battery post of starter relay while cranking to see if dropping below 10 volts.
