Winterizing Question

I have an 88hp Evinrude outboard that's running a bit rough and hesitate to take it out of the water just yet, prefer to troubleshoot in the lake.
With temps dropping up here in northern NH is there a danger to freezing any components inside with the engine. I'm wondering if all of the water inside the powerhead drains out when the engine is shut down?

If boat is in water with motor tilted up then may have water in engine and gearcase that would drain out, if motor is where can trim it down water will drain out.

excellent, thanks. The motor is trimmed down so I should be all set - trying to squeeze in a few more days on the lake
