  • 225 hp running too rich

    I bought a used 225 carb engine old style, I think 1985-1990
Took it in for a tune up and was told the 2 jets on each carburators had been soldered shut. As a result the engine is running very rich and will use 5 gallons of gas in about 1/2hour of 3800 rpm running. What is the soldered jets masking? If I drill them out will I creat another problem? Now the engine starts and runs smoothe...I just can't keep putting fuel in it...
    Thanks for any hints

You can try to get a drill bit hat matches the original jet size and drill it out. Just be sure not to damage anything.
