how to check if ignition switch is working?

I'm having trouble with my 1980 70hp outboard starting. sometimes it will turn over with the key and then sometimes it wont. I hear no sound at all when I turn the key. Also when I push the key to choke the choke solenoid doesn't activate either.

Is there a way to test the switch to see if it is working properly?

any advice would be appreciated!!!

Check to see have 12 volts at red wire going to switch, check for 12 volts at yellow wire on switch when key is in start position.
