  • Rectifier replacement

I recently purchased a replacement rectifier ***y for my 1997 40hp Evinrude motor. When I went replace it, the old ***y had 5 wires[yellow,yellow/blue,grey,red and purple, but the new ***y only has 4 wires[yellow,yellow/blue,grey, and red] the purple wire is missing.
The part # 0585001 on the side of both ***y match,so it seems that this must be a proper replacement. There were no instructions in the Evinrude box explaining the difference in the wiring.
Do I have to put a jumper wire somewhere, or do I just hook it up with the purple wire terminal empty?
By the way, what does the purple wire do ??

    Purple Wire

The purple wire is a "switched positve", while the red wire is "always hot".<P>USUALLY, the purple is used as supply to the instrument lighting.

I search this forum and found a previous post that stated that the purple wire was deamed unnessary so the manufacture maked it without the purple wire. Supposedly it is safe to install it as it is,without the purple wire.

Yes it's ok to install without connecting purple wire.
