Starting Problem???

Probably totally unrelated, but, did a little re-wiring, installed new gauges, everything looking good, go to start the motor, cranking over good, taking a while to start since it has been sitting for a while, and it's an old motor, 1991 Evinrude 100 HP, then all of a sudden nothing, no power to the gauges.

Played around with the remote lever, got power to the gauges, won't crank, turn flywheel or stator by hand, got power to the gauges, turn key to start...

sounds like clicking under stator or flywheel, then no power, repeat the process and get power to the gauges, turn key, clicking sound.

I think I got a handle on what's happening...but, how do I fix it?

Are you sure the clicking is not the starter solenoid?
The guages should get their power through the ignition switch, should have nothing to do with the engine starting, are you sure you got all the electrical connections tight, are the battery cables clean and tight?

I realize that, but when you turn the key on the gauges react, but after the click, there is no power to the gauges.

it is just one click, as soon as I turn key to start, and yes to all the other questions.
