Help with serial number

i have re-built an older evinrude sportwin, i think its a 1971 18 hp. but could be smaller. i need some lower end parts but there is not a model number. the serial number is 10022 11250 i have called three dealers and have been told that number is incorrect. can anyone help me find out the year and hp?

No we would need model number a 10022 model number is a 1961 10hp, a 1971 18hp should be a 18102 or 18103 model.

ok, thanks. i think my best bet is to take the whole motor to my dealer.

If the tag on the transom clamp is gone, look on the block for a silver, quarter sized core plug, it might have the model number on it.
