I just got a 1972 4hp evinrude. It hasn't been ran in 15 years. I have never done any work on outboards so I was wondering what all I need to do and buy for the motor to get it runing safley without any damage. If there is anyone that knows of a link that I could go to or any comment sense that would be great.

You should do the common checks, compression, lower unit oil and pressure/vac testing. Replace the water pump, and replace the points. While your at the points, inspect the coils for cracks and other physical damage. With that old of an engine you'll most likely find damaged coils. Remove the carb and clean and check the condition of the float, replace the gaskets and packings and also replace all the fuel lines. If the compression is even, and take your time and do it right, it will be a reliable engine.
