  • 40 hp te40telesf

    motor stalls after warmup,will only idle for10-15 sec. will usualy start right up and do same then idle for a min. or more ! had carbs cleaned new plugs different oil fresh gas. same result! runs fine on top end ,everything appears good except idle? would it be VRO system or coil?

    If it spits back or pops just before shutting off then it's still running too lean, plugged carb jets or p***ages, air leak in intake or carbs out of sync.

      didn't understand p***ages,,it does pop before it stops. it has oil on right side of intake has been tested for intake leak and p***ed

        Then carbs need to be cleaned still something plugged up in low speed circuit and sync carbs when reinstall them.

          You could also have a air leak before the VRO. It will make it lean pop like crazy. Put a clear fuel line inline b/f it goes to the VRO. Look for air bubbles, the tell tale sign of an air leak. VROs don't like air bubbles in the fuel. But b/f I did that, I'd run a compression check. I've seen a lot of those engines blow the bottom cylinder. It seems to run hotter/leaner than the upper cyl and with the VRO keeping the f/O ratio so lean at low R's, I've seen it happen. When ever I rebuild them, I'd talk the customer out of running the VRO and just run premix, they will never have another problem.
