Hi all,
I have a 1964 evinrude sport twin (9.5 hp), and I think the fuel pump is going??
Today I ran it for about 10 miles at high speed and no issues.
Later, I toned it down to move up the channel so as to dock.
The engine started to stall, and by using half choke..I kept her running till I got to the dock.
Almost a full tank of new gas...new plugs, a new water pump impeller (which works excellent)......even as I was cruising around the lake at high speed, I noticed a variation in rpm and it seemed like she wasn`t getting the fuel she wanted...then rpms would pick up and she ran good again.
So..what would be your opinion as to whether the fuel pump may be crapping out...or maybe the carb has a problem???
This outboard is a 1964 model and has sit in a garage for many years.
I tank tested her and found it needed a new water pump impeller...which I installed, along with new spark plugs.
Today was the maiden voyage....and I want to fiqure out the problem before a serious fishing adventure.
She has great compression, and spark....pretty sure it may be a fuel problem.
Any help or thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
