i have an early 80's 35 HP evinrude outboard which i meticulously care for and always have. this spring, just like every other, I brought it in and had it serviced, same guy every year. Compression, a bit low but expected for it's vintage. Got the motor on the boat, took it out, and had 3 awesome days on the boat. I DID switch from the old metal tank to the new plastic tank with the quick connect on the tank part - same connection on the motor. OK, so here;s the issue:
I'm out puttering on the lake, and the motor starts to sputter, I give it throttle which helped but not much, so I pulled full chock. VROOM! she took off beautifully. 2 minutes layer, she sputters again, so I figured she had enough fuel and backed off the choke all the way. VROOM! she took off again. I had to alternate fullon/full off chock all the way back to the dock. never heard anything like it.
Any takers?
