Ok, so question here is am I doing the right thing? Bought this boat back in Late July last year. Love the boat and everything about it. Dealer informed me that there is no break in to take it out and run it So I did for the first few days to get the feel of how the SHP package with this 250 handled etc. Everything was great. Spent the remainder of the summer leaving marina, going to a sandbar and relaxing. Back and forth pretty much all summer except for the occasional wakeboarding here and there. I did however change the prop to a 17 pitch from the 19 installed to get more acceleration. However on this boat it didnt seem to make any difference. Boat was properly winterized at end of summer with around 60 hours on it. No problems
Ok this year at about hour 68 we were cruising in at around 5000 rpm and the temp light comes on. We were running fast cause a storm coming in. Take boat to dealer, which has been great by the way, Custom Marine Seneca, Illinois. Their computer tells them it was a simple "exhaust fitting". get boat back and all is well.
I also had them change the impeller to be on the safe side. They said the other one looked fine, but went ahead and changed it anyways for me.
Except I put the 19 pitch back on the boat for 2 reasons. I polished the pontoons and the boat is either producing to many rpms because of that.(less drag in the water) Or it is something that they changed at the dealer when they had it. Anyways put the 19 pitch back on and as I open the boat up I have to back it down a bit to keep the rpm gauge under the 5700rpm max. With the 19 or 17 either one the boat will produce 6200rpm if I let it. Load didnt really effect it because I tried by myself, to boat loaded with 7 people and could still over rev her if I wanted to.
Everything was fine except the rpm issue till about hour 88 the temp light decided to come on again. Again normal cruising range for us is 3500rpm. Only really crank her up if storm or someone has to get back in a hurry.
Since I am 2 hours from dealer they send me a kit to change out the water intake screen to allow more water into the motor.
Tried this yesturday and same results water temp light comes on at 5000 rpm or more if ran for say 2 to 3 minutes.
Just spoke to dealer to let them know I was bringing the boat back tomorrow, and informed them to let Evenruide know that I think its time to replace this one. Ive had Evinruide/Johnson my whole life and never had any issues, but this ones scaring me a little. First time Ive ever spent this much cash on a motor before.
Also the boat seems to have lost some topend along the way somewhere. I use to be able to produce 49 by myself with the 19 pitch. Now 44 is pretty much it with same senario.
The dealer pretty much is saying that they are doing whatever Evinrude tells them to do, but would be more than happy to change this one out for me if it comes to it.
My wife and I are trying to keep paitence but this one is making it hard. Hopefully they will change this motor out since we have tried twice to fix this problem to no prevail. Would you insist on them replacing this one??? I plan on having this boat for a very long time and cannont have rebuild cost shortly after this goes out of warranty..
