I finally got the last bolt out and disconnected the shift rod to allow me to drop the lower unit. The only problem is that when the impeller housing was lifted, the shaft came out from the lower unit. Do I need to be concerned with that seal? The gear oil looked good when I drained it so I can ***ume there was no water getting in there prior to the job. I can get the shaft all the way in where it needs to be to get all back together. However with it coming out in the first place, should I be concerned or just continue to put everything back together and check my gear oil after a run or two? Thanks in advance.

You should be ok, the bearings are in a fitted tube, so everything should slide back into place.

Everything has gone back into place through the water pump. I'm waiting on parts
25, 53, 54 and 58 from the gearcase schematic to put the lower unti back on and start it up. Previous owner must have had it apart and just threw a bolt in to replace the stud, bushing, lock washer and nut Although it worked I would rather do it the way it came from the factory.
