Hi new guy here from anchorage ak.. new to boating gave up dirt toys I.e 4-wheeler dirtbike,to buy a boat as my love for fishing is huge(especially our deep sea fishing)..
This was do to a horrific accident my son was in on his dirtbike.. so after 4 yrs of riding for my sons and 12 for me I gave it up aswell as my street bike..
I bought a 95 alumaweld intruder w/a 83 140 evinrude.. took it out and the motor overheated and brang it to mechanic shop told me its a total rebuild, piston and cylinder wallls were scored and they would have to bore out and new pistons, now as Ive meesed with two stroke motors on dirtbikes new it was screwed as the motor is alittle different and theirs4 pistons instead of one..
I opted to buy a 93 e 150 wtletg commercial with lowere jet unit for 2400.00 ,had my mech check it out before I bought he told me it was good..
My question is basically what type of motor did I buy benefits over the 140 I know the 150 is a v-6 which is a plus..
I have a family with 3 kids and dont want to be screwed out in the water..
I told the mech to check over everything and if any replace it right away with new parts,Im excited to try this new motor out..
the first trip i plan is to stay in the lake to make sure the boat is all in good working order..
the only thing I know the owner did was disable the oul injection as he like to mix the gas himself, one thing tho as far as motors concerned when I was dirtbike I went from two- stroke to four and never looked at the two stroke again,my mind is telling me to eventually buy a 4- stroke, as I would think a 4-stroke is more reliable motor in the boat wourld?? I know for sure its more convienent.. one thing is confusing to me tho is if 4-stroke are the new thing why didn't evinrude go with a 4-stroke on their new motors (e- tec)..
Im a honda guy when it comes to small engines and no offense to this site but should I be looking towards a honda or yamaha oppose to evinrude ,merc and such..
Im good with the motor I have noiw just aslong as it serves my family and I well and dont crap out on us, and I for know when it comes to small engine maintinence is a big key..
sorry for long intro ,just wanted to get some of my ? answered and start reading up on some knowledge about these motors..
Also are their any modifications I should do to the motor to make it a bettr runnign unit??.. Like I know for bikes and all that aftermarket companies make kit parts to better the performance of the motor as they had found the their are minor faults in manufactures engineering .. thanks
