  • Fuse keeps blowing

I have a 1977 35hp evinrude. There is a fuse in the wiring harness coming from the ignition switch. It's a 4amp fuse that keeps blowing when I push the key in to use the electric choke. The choke will work but if I hold the key in for more than a couple seconds it blows the fuse. I put a 6amp fuse in and it works fine I can hold the key in as long as I want and the fuse won't blow so I don't think it's a short. The electric start works fine with the 4amp fuse so the problem is linked to the electric choke. I would leave the 6amp fuse in but it's a little longer and the connector won't snap together besides I should be able to use the 4amp if that's what was intended to be in there. Any help with this would be great and again I thank you for all your help. You have been a great aid in helping me bring this ole girl back to life. Also did they make a power trim unit for this motor? The shallow water ***embly is totally missing and I thought if I could find a power trim unit problem solved. If they did make one where would be the best place to look. Again I thank you for all your help

That fuse is actually supposed to be a 20amp fuse.
