  • 2005 Evinrude 115hp Ficht randomly dies

I have a 2005 Evinrude Ficht that has been randomly dying on me. It has done it to me at wide open throttle and just cruising at about 5mph. It starts to sputter then dies. Takes about 4 to 5 cranks and starts back up and runs fine. The motor runs excellent just randomly has been doing this. I have changed the spark plugs, fuel filter/water separator, and checked the fuel for water. I thought for sure the spark plugs would fix this when I changed them because the old ones looked pretty worn but still have the same issue. It did it four times to me yesterday when I was out for the day. Does this seem like a bad fuel pump? How do I check fuel pressure and where should the pressure be at? Any other thoughts? Maybe the vent in the tank is partially plugged? Is it possible the ball to pump the fuel up is not allowing enough fuel through? Does it even need the ball beings it is fuel injected? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If pumping primer bulb will keep engine running then may have fuel pump problem.

I think I may have found my problem. I put new spark plugs in because the old ones were pretty worn. I didnt realize the ground electrode needs to be facing the injector. I just put them in and away I went. Could this be the problem?

Yes, the ficht motors need to be indexed, that could have been the cause of your problem.
