  • A little help please...(shift Linkage)

How do you reconnect the shift rod to the shift linkage.

It is relatively easily to remove as explained in the manual, by removing the pin that holds the linkage, then pushing the rod toward the power head, but then no subsequent information as to how to put it back together, since it is impossible to see the top of the shift rod when you replace the lower section.

Now I have been around long enough to know that everything is easy, but only when you know how to do it...is there some sequence of events that is unknown to me, or some little trick of the trade to accomplish this seemingly simple task, if so, would someone be so kind as to share it with me*.

I really want to get this boat on the water, and my frustration is mounting.

    Thanks,
    SD

If its the model I am thinking it is (linkage is under carburetors), then there is no easy method. You can remove the carberators for easier access.

Yup your right, "no easy way" I finally stuck my face right in there, and moving and tying up a few tubes and wires, I was able to see the end of the shaft.

Messed around in there for a while trying to line things up and pull that shift linkage through the hole in the shift rod, can't see behind that shift linkage to see exactly what kind of linkup it is.

The head scratching begins when it is all lined up and I can't pull it through the hole...me begins to think I inadvertently turned the shift shaft a few times when replacing the water pump, so I guess my next step is to measure the shaft as per the manual.

We'll see how that turns out...no pun intended.
