  • 1997 Evinrude 150 OceanPro overheating

New here and at my wits end with this problem. I have a 1997 Evinrude 150 OceanPro model E150EXEUE. I bought the boat last year and it was running good. The place I bought it from stated the cylinder o-rings had been replaced and you can tell the heads have been off and they used gasket maker to seal it up. Took the boat to the beach and after being out a while the slow system kick on with no alarm. Messed with it for a while took it to a mechanic his solution was to remove the t stats so it would not over heat. This spring replaced the water pump and t stats. It idles around 145degrees with no problem. When I get it up on plan around 3800rpm it runs for a few minutes the alarm and slow system kick on and I still have good water pressure coming out he tel tel hole no presure relief valve on this model. The temp on the thermo sensor is around 167degrees when I get back there to check it. Ran it on a hose today and a lot of hot water was leaking out where the lower unit bolts on. When I replaced the water pump the exhaust housing did not want to stay up in the shaft housing. Could this leaking cause the motor to overheat by pulling hot water back into the cooling system? I really don’t want to pull the heads if I don’t have to. Any advice would be great. Anyone ever had this same problem? Thx for the help.

If the gaskets under exhaust extension are bad or leaking could cause problems. Check water pump housing to see if melted, if so replace housing.
