  • 1985 evinrude new fuel pump

    Hi
The boat I bought had the oil lines disconnected from the fuel pump. It also had an electric fuel pump installed after the primer bulb. The fuel line was also redirected from the original pump. A freind of mine has rebuilt the fuel pump so that it will work for premix fuel only (No oil). My question is ,would it still be ok to leave the electric pump where it is as a back-up should the fuel pump on the motor fail. Would the electric pump push fuel thru the motor mounted pump. Of course I could check this myself but as luck would have it the electric pump casing cracked and not longer works. I'm looking at getting another should my thinking of the back up work.
    Many thanks

You should not leave the electric pump installed if you are going to use the mechanical pump.

      Hi there,
My thinking was that as you can blow thru each pump. Only running the electric if the mechanical pump failed wouldn't be an issue. Could you please explain your reason for taking the electric pump out of the line.
      Many Thanks

Leaving the pump in without running it could cause a fuel restriction and not get enough gas to carbs, running two pumps could be too much pressure and flood carbs.
