  • Which gearcase as*embly fits my 1996 Elan 35hp? (BE35QLEDC)

    Hi there.

The engine I have started making this clunking sound last fall on the last drive for the year. We took the engine to a shop where they "couldn't reproduce" the problem. I can't remember what they actually did, but not much. Changed the spark plugs maybe. And told us the engine should be quite ok.

A couple of weeks back I was going to take the boat out for a spin, and the it made the same noise. I tried to listen where it came from, but couldn't really put my finger on it. So back to the shop it went.

Today I heard that the gears are in a really bad shape - as I understand they have practically ceased to exist. Also the bearings are gone, and buying the whole of the lower end was recommended.

Now, I thought, perhaps I could buy the parts a bit cheaper from the US, than what they cost here in Finland. I've never bought this stuff before, so I guess it's not surprising that I ended up at boats.net. They seem to have all the parts alright, but the "GEARCASE AS*Y., Complete" lists as obsolete. Looking at the prices on the individual parts, getting the complete asembly (I know there's an 's' missing, but the forum seems to parse "a s s" to ***, even if it's a part of another word - should I use arsembly or donkeyembly?) would make a lot of sense to me. But as it's "obsolete", is there some other, newer ***embly I could be buying, or am I stuck with individual parts? It seems the case (without other parts) is also obsolete, so... There must be something, right?

I hope someone here can help me with this. I wouldn't want to scrap the whole engine just because the gears are shot.

    Regards,
    Teemu, Finland

0437934 Gearcase ***emble is no longer available from Evinrude and they don't list an alternate part. Might check to see if can find a used one.

Thanks for the quick reply, even if it does little to help me.

If they don't list an alternate part, does that mean there really isn't one, or that they just haven't listed it? Do they usually list all compatible alternates, or is it their custom not to do that?

If there really is no new part that I could fit on my engine, do you have suggestions where to look for a used one? The local, Finnish, buy&sell and boat forums are an obvious answer, of course, but quickly exhausted without luck.

      Regards,
      Teemu

Yes it mean that the part is no longer available with no replacements.
