Hi there.
The engine I have started making this clunking sound last fall on the last drive for the year. We took the engine to a shop where they "couldn't reproduce" the problem. I can't remember what they actually did, but not much. Changed the spark plugs maybe. And told us the engine should be quite ok.
A couple of weeks back I was going to take the boat out for a spin, and the it made the same noise. I tried to listen where it came from, but couldn't really put my finger on it. So back to the shop it went.
Today I heard that the gears are in a really bad shape - as I understand they have practically ceased to exist. Also the bearings are gone, and buying the whole of the lower end was recommended.
Now, I thought, perhaps I could buy the parts a bit cheaper from the US, than what they cost here in Finland. I've never bought this stuff before, so I guess it's not surprising that I ended up at boats.net. They seem to have all the parts alright, but the "GEARCASE AS*Y., Complete" lists as obsolete. Looking at the prices on the individual parts, getting the complete asembly (I know there's an 's' missing, but the forum seems to parse "a s s" to ***, even if it's a part of another word - should I use arsembly or donkeyembly?) would make a lot of sense to me. But as it's "obsolete", is there some other, newer ***embly I could be buying, or am I stuck with individual parts? It seems the case (without other parts) is also obsolete, so... There must be something, right?
I hope someone here can help me with this. I wouldn't want to scrap the whole engine just because the gears are shot.
Regards,
Teemu, Finland
