  • 2001 Ficht ... Key Ignition Problem

I have a 2001 Evinrude Ficht 150hp Outboard ... ser # G04959234 E150FBISIG ..... when I turn the key to start ... there would be nothing ... wait 10 minutes and it would start ... THEN it quit starting all together ... I traced it back to the key starter ... replaced it ... and it started just fine about 15 times ... then nothing again .... won't start when I turn the key ... am I burning out the key switch some how ? If not , what's the problem ... I am stumped ...
    Thanks... Doug

Its hard to say, make sure all your safety kill switches are working properly (safety lanyard, neutral safety, etc). The computer operates the starter relay on this model.

So , every checks OK ... so if it is the computer ... is there a fix or is it a new computer ?
        Thanks... Doug

Or could it be a bad starter relay ? How would I check it ?

It has a start delay relay on it and if starts when first turn key but wont start after 10 sconds of key being on then start delay relay is loosing ground through the brown wire or gray wire, which would be a bad diode in one of those wires.
