  • Cold starting problem

I have a 1994 Evinrude 40 HP (E40ELER) and have a problem starting when cold especially in the spring and fall. When cold starting, it will start, but the fast idle must be on the highest setting. When it starts, it seems to be running on one cylinder for a few seconds. After a while, it rev's up and I can slow it down to a reasonable speed. If I do not do this it keeps stalling. After going to a fishing spot and starting and stopping the rest of the day, it runs and starts fine (I don't have to use the fast idle anymore).
    Help!!!!!

This is very commen in older two strokes. Not much can be done about this. If the motor works just fine after the morning start then you should be ok.

      Thanks!
I also had QL78YC spark plugs. When I switched back to QL78C, it seemed to help. Runs better now and the cold starting is a little better. I don't know what the "Y" means but it seems to run better with the non "Y" plugs.
Sorry it took so long to get back but the Walleye fishing was great this spring.

      Thanks again.
