  • 89 Evinrude VRO Fuel Pump test

    1989 E40ELCEC 40 HP
I suspect the VRO fuel pump is bad. Coming from the pump is a harness with Blue / Brown / Black wires.
With the 3 wire plug disconnected..... On the engine side of that plug I get voltage to the blue wire during starting. If I apply 12V to the pump side of the blue wire no pumping action. The black wire is grounded. The brown wire goes to the oil tank.
Is the pump bad? Or is there another test to perform? The replacement is $365.00 so I want to be sure that is the part that needs replacin.
    Thanks

The diaphragm is bad. When sucking on the impulse nipple it won't hold a vacuum. When blowing in the nipple it wont hold pressure.
    We'll be changing that sucka...
The wires are for the oil alarm. It's not a electric pump as I thought
Once again working without a manual. One day I'll learn.
