I am rebuilding a 1990 70 hp evinirude. I have been advised that I should do away with the oil injection and go to a pump that does not have oil injection and mix my gas 50-1. As there are a lot of failures of this pump for oil injection. I have talked to parts guys at BRP and parts guys at Boats.net. I was told I needed to get a standard crankcase fuel pump, but the guys at Boats.net tell me I need a part number that I can only get from BRP. I got a part number 5007422 that comes up as a premix conversion kit for $341.52. Is that a conversion kit or a new pump for $341.52? My local dealer wants to sell me a pump for $421.65 that is supposed to be just a premix pump. I am just wanting to put this thing back together and see how it runs before I invest that much more money. The VRO2 pump was working before the overhaul. A carburator plugged and ran #1 cylinder dry and scored it.
Found on the thread that a pump #0385784 might work. It is a standard crankcase fuel pump? Has no electrical connections, what would power it? Feeling pretty dumb at this point.
I am a pretty good mechanic, but have not done a lot of outboard work.
Advice?
